How to take a compliant ID photo?

A few simple settings are enough for your photo to be accepted first time.

Do

Stand straight, facing the camera, looking at the lens.
Show your head and the top of your shoulders, with your face well centred.
Stand in front of a plain, light wall, in soft light, with no shadows on your face.
Keep a neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes wide open.
Keep your forehead and ears uncovered.
Send a sharp, unfiltered, high-resolution photo.

Avoid

Sunglasses, a cap, a mask or direct flash.
Selfies taken too close: hold the phone at arm’s length, or ask someone to take it.
Retouched or blurry photos, or photos more than 6 months old.
